Our Story - Dean, founder of Palm Strings

About 10 years ago, after leaving my first corporate job in the insurance industry, I wanted to try something completely new. A family friend gave me the opportunity to sell beach-style jewellery on the shores of Sardinia, Italy. What I thought would be merely a holiday job and an excuse to do some travelling, sparked an interest in the handcrafted jewellery industry.

Seeing that there was such a demand for this type of jewellery in the Italian market, an idea of selling it in South Africa was formed. Once back in Durban, I began experimenting with different designs and materials. I gathered a talented and trustworthy team of local craftsmen, and within a few months, I had multiple traders selling my jewellery on some of the beaches in Mozambique. As the popularity grew, I managed to get my jewellery into a few stores. Fast forward to 2020, and Palm Strings jewellery can now be found in over 80 stores in South Africa, Kenya, Mauritius and Seychelles.

Our vision is to make locally handcrafted coastal-inspired pieces that appeal to all, while still being affordable.
